Ubuntu 8.04 Release Candidate
I couldn’t wait.
Today, I re-installed my Linux-partition with Hardy Heron. Downloaded the alternate cd and did a command-line installation before apt-getting ubuntu-desktop. The first notable change is that it no longer crashes when I set my harddrives to AHCI in the BIOS. I can finally utilize the full potential of my drives, which is a good thing. GIMP has become a part of the ubuntu-desktop package, so I can no longer remove it without having to remove the meta-package as well. Although this doesn’t really matter much, I don’t like it. I hate GIMP. The sound was muted after the installation. I don’t know why, and it’s not really that big of a deal, but it took a while to find the volume controller. The desktop looks somewhat refreshed but still has the brown look many people dislike. Otherwise, I haven’t played around with it long enough to write anything more extensive. If they’ve fixed the nasty memory leak caused by Nautilus, I’m more than satisfied with this release.
Now, where’s my Windows XP Service Pack 3?
